Bird Watching

One of the nice things about bird feeders is the surprise visits you get from birds you wouldn't normally see in the yard. I saw this woodpecker for the first time from the laundry room window while I was folding the umpteenth load of clothes. He looked so cool with his checkered body and patch of orange head. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good picture of him but this one is close enough so that you can get a general idea of what he looks like. I believe he's a red-bellied woodpecker.

Blue Jays are more common to my feeders than the woodpeckers, but they're still beautiful to look at. I like the pattern of color in their tails. The tail sticking out from the suet feeder belongs to either a grackle or a mockingbird.

David has seen a Baltimore Oriole near the entrance to our subdivision, and I hope to get a picture of him, too!
