Edwards on the assassination of Bhutto

"I want to say a word about the terrible tragedy that occurred in Pakistan earlier today. It's a terrible thing for the process of democratization in Pakistan, it's a terrible thing for the stability of Pakistan, and it's very important that we, America, and those of us who are running for president of the United States, be a strengthening and calming influence in these kinds of times.

"I met the former Prime Minister a few years ago. We spoke together at a conference. And she spoke then about the importance of the democratization process, her personal commitment and risk of her own life, which she recognized, and how the democratization process in Pakistan was, I think her words were, 'baptized in blood.'

"I spoke to President Musharraf a few minutes ago and I urged him to continue the democratization process because of how important it is to the Pakistani people and how important it is to his country. I also urged him to allow international investigators into Pakistan so that, for the rest of the world, there can be credibility in determining what the facts were and what actually occurred.

"It's very important for the Pakistani people, for the stability of the world and for America's interests, that the democratization process continue, and I believe this is the time for America to be a strong and calming influence in a difficult and unstable environment." - John Edwards

I believe this is the best response from any of the presidential primary candidates, and it reaffirms why Edwards would be a good choice to lead this country. In fact, most of the statements made by Democrats were decent. Not so for the statements by Republicans - google rudy and see what he had to say. Gag.

A few more pictures from Christmas

David tries Jen's Pogo Stick because...I got the wrong one! Jen couldn't get it to budge and neither could Michael. Turns out, Pogo Sticks come in different calibrations for weight. Um, not when I got one back a long time ago!!

Jen tries to get her Pogo Stick going.

Jen gave Michael a tractor from Tractor Supply, and he's reenacting the tractor tipping scene from Cars for me.

David had been talking about hosting a poker night, but he wasn't equipped with the gear to do it. Santa took care of the gear, and Michael's volunteered to be the dealer.

Christmas at the Phillips/Scott/Irace/Harris Home

Well, Christmas has come and gone, and we sure did have a good time at our house! The day started with Gus leaving us his Christmas gift on the stairs. What a thoughtful kitty, leaving us a slinky-fied version of cat puke! Only Gus would have thought of that.

Jennifer was a good girl and waited until 8:30 to come downstairs. She was dressed and ready to see what Santa had brought her, but the deal was 9:00 so she had to wait. At the agreed upon time, she got us up and tried to wake up her brother, but he was too tired from staying up all night playing his 10 day free trial of WOW. Michael finally made it downstairs and we all had a quick oatmeal breakfast before tearing in to the presents.

In short, Santa left Michael his first Daisy BB gun, Jennifer her first Pogo Stick, Mom an Ab Lounger (uh, okay...), and David a nifty poker chip set. The cats were very happy with their stockings and their new kitty toy (see video down below). The dogs were happy with their stockings as well, and were secretly happy to see the puppy go home to her family.

After Michael and Jennifer went to their dad's, it was time to make the Christmas Pot Roast and get everything cleaned up and ready for round two. David's son Aric and his girlfriend Taylor came over for dinner, which was really nice since David's girls were out of town. After opening presents, Aric and David had a Battleship tournament while Taylor and I went to laugh at the latest posts on icanhascheezburger.com.

Where's Ron been hiding, you might ask. Well, at midnight, David and I drove to Louisville to pick Ron up from the airport. He had been at his dad's house for the first week of vacation. Ron understandably was sleepy this morning, so Christmas round three will happen tonight.

I received the greatest Christmas present of all - a day spent with my children, David and David's boy, the cats (Gus and Rex) and the dogs (Hady and Envy). My thoughts are with my extended family in California, Indiana, Nevada and Minnesota. I hope all of you had as wonderful a Christmas as we did here in Kentucky.

Ah, Rex - he's the bestest kitten evah!!!

Pictures from Michael's TKD Tournament

Michael's Tournament Group

Michael is just too cute.

Michael takes first place in sparring.

Michael had a lot of fun at this tournament. He took first in sparring and second in forms (to the kid in the picture up there with him).
