Below is a request from my very good friend, John Jodka. I never thought the Iraq war would come this close to me, since none of my family are currently enlisted and my boyfriend is in the reserves doing non-frontline stuff.
Most of you who know me know how I feel about this war, Bush, and republicans in general, but this friend of mine is pro-Bush, republican and pro-war (as far as I know) and I would do anything for him anyway. Some things transcend politics.

This explains my request and I humbly reach out to those who know me and my honor and honesty. Some may also have seen me on the local news last night.
My son, my hero, is in a VERY bad spot but I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt of his innocence. All of you are aware that my convictions are strong and I have the courage to stand by them. Yet I am overwhelmed by the strength of my son's convictions and belief in the truth.
Sadly, the US Marine Corps leadership has turned its back on my son and his squadmates in a Quixote-like search for political correctness; but even though abandoned by his leaders and held in conditions worse that Zacarias Moussaoui's prison my son's positive attitude, humor and fervent belief in what is right buoys my spirits and uplifts those around him.
I do not ask you for a referendum on your support for the Iraq war, George Bush, Congress, the Defense Department or the foreign policies of the United States. All that is immaterial to me right now- I speak only as a father who must surely do everything to stand for, defend and protect my most beloved son. I have written to the Whitehouse concerning these Marines, and the unjust conditions in which they are being held.
I doubt if US Troops would go door to door to commit murder. I think the charges are based on lies.

What is being done to these heroes is unjustifiable and I hope through your eyes you'll be able to see some of the damage that liberal America has done to the military. This is a perfect example of politically correct nonsense that the military is forced to deal with and it needs to end.
I am sorry your friend is being subjected to this type of treatment, but if they were not held in this manner we would be hearing from the MSM how the military treats this as no big deal. I do not think these heroes deserve what has happened to them and I must thank you for having the courage to post it on your site.

I say if the Republicans can impeach a man for a blow job then one who operates with impugnity and attacks Iraq instead of Afganistan and capturing Bin Laden . He also has the blood of the dead soldiers on his hands, lied about the reasons for going to war, outted CIA Agents which this Presidents father said any one who did that was the most insipidious of traitors. Why has there been no clearly defined agenda? No exit strategy? When I was in the 1st Desert Storm, Then Bush the 41st declared major military operation have ceased. We came home! I think you should have to serve at least 4 years as a requirement to be president. BUSH/CHENEY both said they had more important things to do than serving thier country instead of going to Vietnam. Well in my opinion they have more important things than being President/Vice President. Al Gore & John Kerry were there they could have used thier connections to skip it but they went.

President Bush is the Commander and Chief.. He is Our President and to badmouth either him or Rumsfeld during War is as much as doing the same to the Troops. I'm not that young a woman. I am a proud democrat because I am proud of what this party stands for - equal rights, common sense, shared humanity, etc. Baby killing? Please, take that kind of language somewhere else. I criticize the president because it is my duty as an American to do so. It doesn't matter if it's during war time or peace time. It's my right, my early American ancestors fought for it and my immigrant great-great grandparents left home for it. I will say that Bush is the worst president ever and I will say that I support the men and women in uniform that have to serve under this man, and I have done more to prove it than others.
I say the Marines are innocent to proven guilty.
There is no need to have them confined 24 hours at a time and shackled. The terrorist at GITMO are not shackled like this and they are guilty.

It's pretty clear, based on the situation, that one or more of them ratted out the main offender. Hence why they are in shackles -- they are a risk to each other.

This is Jodka Jr's point regarding Murtha - he's delivered a verdict before discovery and trial. That verdict, coming from a man respected by the military community and a veteran himself, taints the presupposition of innocence and renders unknown actions as guilty, not guiltless.

gregariousred, I stand by my comments. My "condemnation" of these Marines is not given without research, thought and deliberation. I'm not a jury, so -- short of posting my comments on your blog -- it's not like I've convicted anyone or tainted the jury pool.
I've a feeling Mr. Murtha has more information available to him (but even then, he was specifically talking about the Haditha massacre). I've researched that one, and based on the fact that the witness accounts and video directly contradict the military's official statement about the incident, I have to conclude that someone in the military did indeed cover-up what really happened. If nothing happened in either incident, I will provide an apology and take back my words.
Again, I also stand by my comments that I am making my own personal conclusion on this matter without ignorance and without bias. Sure, I'm just making my conclusions on available media reports and my own suspicions, but then again, I think OJ did it -- and I'm sure you do too.
